I love all things cute and pretty. This is one reason I love to craft. The other reason is that crafting is productive work. What I mean is that most of the work involved in motherhood is reproductive, and I don't mean just popping out babies. I mean you do it today, although you also had to do it yesterday, and you will undoubtedly do it tomorrow, the next day and so on. Dishes, diapers, making beds, making meals, wiping tables, wiping faces, running errands, running a mommy marathon, you get the point. I love it. It's wonderful and I know these never-ending reproductive tasks hold great value.
At the same time, every once in a while it's nice to do something that stays done. When I complete a craft, no one eats it in fifteen minutes and leaves dirty dishes as the only evidence of my efforts. I think that's why crafting is so satisfying to me-- it is my only creative work that looks good for longer than an hour. Coupled with, again, my love for all things pretty and cute, and my love for bargaining (just let me believe that homemade gifts are less expensive), crafting (sewing in particular) turns out to be for me just about the best hobby ever.
With the recent arrival of my third offspring, crafting aspiration are on a hiatus, but in my heart of hearts, I know I will someday return to the sewing machine scene. And when that time comes, I won't at all remember which projects were in the line-up or how to do them. Hence this blog I have created with the sole purpose of charting my crafting inspiration and aspirations. My crafting to do list... quelquejour... (aka "someday," but it always sounds better in French)
